The composite index surged by 11%, reaching $3,511 per 40ft container. This marks an impressive 104% increase compared to the same week last year!
Compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, rates have skyrocketed by 147%, highlighting the lasting impact of recent global disruptions on freight costs.
Year-to-date, the average rate stands at $3,241 per 40ft container, $524 above the 10-year average.
Regional Highlights:
Shanghai to Rotterdam, Los Angeles, and New York: Rates climbed by 12%, reaching $4,172, $4,476 and $5,717 per 40ft container respectively.
Shanghai to Genoa: Rates up by 11%, reaching $4,776 per FEU.
Rotterdam to New York: A modest increase of 2%, reaching $2,209 per FEU.
Rotterdam to Shanghai & Los Angeles to Shanghai: A slight decrease, indicating a rebalancing in some corridors.
Drewry forecasts a continued rise in ex-China rates due to heightened demand, tight capacity, and the ongoing need to reposition empty containers.
